HISTORY
The charity was initially set up to help friends and families fulfill their zakat obligation distributing aid to the poor and needy. Having been born in India but settling in the UK, a group of us had a sense of responsibility to give back to the poor community in India and that is why the charity was created. Our work expanded in other countries as a result of the other countries suffering from natural disasters, displacement or severe weather conditions leading to people suffering from extreme poverty.
As we received more support we decided to expand our activities internationally.
WHERE WE WORK
A small group of trustees have run this charity for over a decade with work which has been carried out all over the world from India, Indonesia, Gambia, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Nepal, Bangladesh,Sudan, Turkey and other countries.
With all your donations we ensure that 100% is used for the project work. Till date all flights and expenses during the projects were covered by the trustee’s personal expenses.
We aim to ensure that the 100% donations policy means that the donor is assured that all funds are being used towards the specified project only. After advice from the charity commission we have been advised that some of these expenses should come from the gift aid due to paper trail, safety and security of the trustees.
Real impact and value-for-money
With our projects, we would meet with the local MPs, councils or local representatives in the countries we work in before carrying out the project to make sure we have approval /security and if possible help with the delivery of distribution. We have also met with and had high profile MPs such as Lyn Brown, Stephen Timms and Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz at our Annual General meetings in the UK advocating support for the work we do.
We are a UK based registered charity that reports all of its activities to the charity commission and provide full transparency. Most of the time the trustees will return to same areas and carry out monitoring visits and checks on current & past projects.
This is to make sure that projects are being carried out as requested, ensure distribution is usually carried out in our presence and funds are being used where allocated. Majlis Al Falah Trust UK does not participate, encourage or distribute funds towards any unethical or unlawful activities.
The trust is not involved in any other projects other than those on this website and mentioned by the team.
