900,000 people have found safety in the Cox Bazar's region of Bangladesh which is now home to the world's largest refugee camp.

Majlis Al Falah Trust have built and are continuing to build a Majlis Al Falah Trust Colony with Shelters for the Rohingya community in Bangladesh.

We started this project in 2022 after some groundwork and planning and are going to carry on in 2023.

In the last 6 years we have continued to support the Rohingya community in Bangladesh and West Bengal to help them with food distribution, aid, shelter and blanket distribution during Ramadhaan and the especially the winter/flood periods.

Wooden homes

During the monsoon season, the tents and temporary accommodation usually gets destroyed and damaged.

The ground is bare, wet and muddy inside their housing the shelters and this is why Majlis Al Falah has built housing in more stable areas in Coxs bazaar with materials which will be withstand the difficult weather conditions.

Previously we visited the small tents they were staying in to see how they are living. In that small space they were making food to eat, sleep and use outdoor toilets, they had no electricity, no clean water and the floor they are staying in is wet.

The conditions are terrible and inhabitable, unsanitary and diseases/illnesses are more likely to happen and spread in these conditions. This is why we decided to build permanent safe housing for the people there.

The Rohingya community underwent mass exodus due to persecution in their lands and are scattered in different areas with many residing in Bangladesh. They are the forgotten people whose plight is a long term crisis and regardless where they have currently

settled their situation lacks stability. We are hoping to provide and continue providing more stable long term accommodation solutions for the Rohingya community refugees in Bangladesh.

The Rohingya community has been suffering from  ongoing poverty and dire living conditions which is going to have a multigenerational impact.

Recently there has been an extra request for help due to a fire in the Rohingya refugee camp in Coxs Bazaar in Bangladesh. Thankfully, the accommodation that we built was not affected but this does highlight the need to move away from wooden housing options so that they are more weather friendly in a country prone to wet conditions or fires. 12,000+  Rohingya have been left without shelter and the fire has burnt down homes, medical facilities , education centres and mosques.
